The 2026 Technical SEO Checklist for Indian Websites
Technical SEO is the plumbing of your website. When it works, nobody notices; when it breaks, your best content never ranks. Use this checklist to make sure Google can crawl, render, index and trust every page that matters.
Crawlability
Crawling comes before everything. If a bot cannot reach a page, nothing else helps.
- robots.txt allows important pages and never blocks CSS or JS.
- Reference your XML sitemap inside robots.txt.
- No important page is more than three clicks from the homepage.
- Internal links use descriptive anchor text, not "click here".
- No orphan pages — every page is linked from somewhere.
- Broken internal links (404s) are found and fixed.
Indexability
- Important pages return
index, follow; no accidentalnoindex. - Each page has exactly one self-referencing canonical URL.
- Duplicate and parameter URLs canonicalise to a single clean version.
- No redirect chains or loops; redirects are single-hop 301s.
- Search Console "Pages" report is clean of "Crawled – not indexed".
Parameter and faceted URLs are the most common cause of bloated, near-duplicate indexes — point them all to one canonical. This is exactly the fix our SEO team applies first on most audits.
Site architecture & URLs
- Clean, readable URLs — words, not query strings or IDs.
- Logical hierarchy: Home → Services → individual service pages.
- Consistent trailing-slash and HTTPS/non-www rules (one canonical host).
- Breadcrumbs on deep pages, with BreadcrumbList schema.
Core Web Vitals & speed
- LCP under 2.5s, CLS under 0.1, INP under 200ms (field data).
- Images compressed, lazy-loaded, with explicit width & height.
- Render-blocking CSS/JS minimised; non-critical scripts deferred.
- Gzip/Brotli compression and browser caching enabled.
- Preconnect to required third-party origins only.
Hosting matters too — a slow server caps your scores no matter how lean the code. See our web hosting options built for speed.
Mobile
- Responsive layout; no horizontal scroll on any screen.
- Tap targets large enough; text readable without zoom.
- Same content and links on mobile as desktop (mobile-first indexing).
Structured data
- Organization and WebSite schema sitewide.
- Service, FAQ, Breadcrumb and Article/BlogPosting where relevant.
- LocalBusiness schema with accurate NAP for local pages.
- All schema validated with no errors in the Rich Results Test.
Security & trust
- HTTPS enforced sitewide with a valid certificate.
- Security headers (HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy).
- A helpful custom 404 page that links back into the site.
Where to start
If the list feels long, fix in this order: indexability first, then speed, then schema. Those three move rankings fastest. Want it handled? Our on-page & technical SEO service runs this entire checklist for you, or read our full guide to ranking #1 on Google for the bigger picture.
